Worry Stone - Picture Jasper

Worry stones are smooth stones with an indent that are said to ease stress and worry. Common to Buddhist meditation, it is said that a monk would start meditating with a smooth, round stone that would be rubbed with the thumb during meditation. Over the course of the monk's life, eventually an indentation would form, and this was a sign that the monk had reached enlightenment. Today, we sell these stones with the indentation already carved. Worry stones make the perfect gift for the worriers, the spiritual nomads, and will help focus those who can't seem to sit still.

Jasper is a stone that comes in many different varieties and colors, a recent contest challenged rock collectors to send in varieties of jaspers and over 2000 varieties were listed. It is a stone that will have different colorings from different areas where it comes from. Jasper may be found in many countries of the world including Canada. 

Jasper is usually formed from old sediments (or volcanic ash flows) that have been glued (and at times replaced) with silica. Flow patterns of the original material are often easy to see. Many jaspers are known as picture jasper because they contain what appear to be small images of sand dunes, mountains, plains, and even sky.

Jasper is believed by some to strengthen as well as heal the physical body. Various jaspers may also help with allergies and the immune system.
