Mahogany Obsidian Egg

Obsidian is a form of volcanic glass, it has been used as glass by ancient cultures.  Some call it smoky tears or Apache Tears, as it is said to resemble a tear when held up to the light.  Mahogany obsidian is very similar in appearance to snowflake obsidian, the difference is that in mahogany obsidian the patterns are reddish brown instead of white or grey. This is due to the presence of hematite or magnetite, giving it the reddish brown colouring. 

The egg symbolizes fertility. The egg shape symbolizes the first step that we must complete in order to achieve the realization of our goals and dreams. It also symbolizes things that have no beginning and no end. In meditation, one should hold the egg in your hand. Many believe they have a have a special, comforting feeling. Collectors sometimes collect individual eggs, and sometimes collect large egg collections in “nests” or baskets.

Exposure to water and other chemicals, such as cleaning products or aerosols, will damage it over time. If you polish the gemstone, use a dry cloth only, or an air duster that does not contain any disinfectant or other chemicals.
