The turritella are ancient shell specimens that have been preserved in a brown or beige matrix. They are very beautiful to look at. The turritella is a type of gastropod or snail. The turritella has a long, thin shell. It can have many spires or turrets which give the turritella its name.

The turritella shells are still found today in our oceans. This is surprising as these shells first appeared on the scene over 80 million years ago but have recently disappeared, possibly being replaced by the common scallop. The age of the specimens that we sell is approximately 20 million years old.
