Dumortierite Touch Stone

Dumortierite belongs to the silicate class of minerals, and boasts a deep violet to blue colour. In rare cases this stone may also be found in pink and brown varieties. Dumortierite forms in prismatic crystals or a massive form, which will cause variations on the stone’s opaquancy, with crystals ringing to translucent or transparent, while the more common massive form is typically opaque. This may lead to it being misidentified as other stones, like sodalite or lapis lazuli. Dumortierite is named for the French paleontologist Eugene Dumortier, who discovered the stone in the Rhône-Alps of France in 1881.

Exposure to water and other chemicals, such as cleaning products or aerosols, will damage it over time. If you polish the stone, use a dry cloth only, or an air duster that does not contain any disinfectant or other chemicals.
