Specular Hematite

This is a very attractive form of hematite, as it is very sparkly. Often found in a very massive form, the pieces are then cut and sliced to show off the attractive sparkle pattern that forms within the hematite. 

Hematite is named after the Greek word for blood.  This is because a red dust is given off by the stone when it is cut and polished.  Specular hematite has a metallic finish since the stone is an iron ore with a high percentage of iron.  Don't worry though, hematite cannot rust.  Hematite is found in a variety of locations in Canada and around the world.  Hematite is believed by some to enhance personal magnetism, optimism, courage and will have a positive effect on the bloodstream

This stone requires special care - exposure to water and other chemicals, such as cleaning products or aerosols, will damage it over time. If you polish the stone, use a dry cloth only, or an air duster that does not contain any disinfectant or other chemicals.
