Muonionalusta Meteorite Slice

The Muonionalusta meteorite is believed to be one of the oldest known meteorites on Earth, originating over 4 billion years ago and landing in northern Scandinavia roughly one million years BCE.
This rare iron meteorite is famous for its Widmannstätten pattern—a geometric crystal structure formed as the meteorite cooled extremely slowly in outer space. When cut and etched, it reveals stunning, intersecting metallic lines unique to this type of meteorite.
Having survived four ice ages, each piece carries incredible cosmic history and often contains inclusions such as Troilite. A must-have for any collection.

Campo del Cielo Meteorite

Campo del cielo was a very large meteorite fall, it is theorized to be a large piece that broke up when entering the atmosphere, some 4000 to 6000 years ago. Campo del cielo means field of the sky or heaven, which is a very appropriate name. This meteorite was first discovered in 1576, the meteorite fragments have been found over a large area, both inside and outside of craters. Most Campo pieces come from Argentina, although some very recent finds suggest fragments may be found as far away as Peru. This is one of the few iron meteorites.  It has been studied extensively by many Universities and may also be found in several museum collections.

Black Tektite Specimen

Tektites—named from the Greek tektos, meaning “melted”—were once misunderstood as lightning-fused sand or even comet tears. Today, they are understood to be created when powerful meteorite impacts launch terrestrial material into the atmosphere.
During atmospheric re-entry, this debris melts, reshapes, and cools into glossy black stones full of character and natural texture.
Many people enjoy tektites for meditation, as they symbolize the meeting of earthly and cosmic energies.

As the Muonionalusta and Campo del Cielo meteorites are composed mostly of iron, care must be taken to prevent them from rusting.  Direct exposure to water is not recommended.  Oil the pieces regularly with mineral oil or olive oil.  Do not leave them laying around on wet surfaces.  

This piece contains authentic specimens, and no two are exactly alike. The item you receive may have slight variations from the one photographed.

Approximately 14.5 mm x 14.5 mm x 1 mm

Campo del Cielo Meteorite:
Approximately 18 mm x 20 mm x 9 mm

Black Tektite Specimen:
Approximately 20 mm x 17 mm x 12 mm

Exposure to water and other chemicals, such as cleaning products or aerosols, may damage the meteorite or cause it to rust over time. If you polish the meteorite, use a dry cloth only, or an air duster that does not contain any disinfectant or other chemicals.
