Pinolite Skull Carving

Pinolite (also called pinolith) is a Canadian stone consisting of magnesite, dolomite, and graphite. This stunning stone boasts beautiful black, grey and white oblong oval patterns, due to the slow cooling process during its formation.

Pinolite was uncovered in the Rockies mountain range of BC in 2018 by gold miners. Prior to this, it was believed that Pinolite was only found in Austria. Canadian pinolite differs as it may contain traces of additional minerals such as quartz, zircon, apatite, and muscovite. Iron pyrite inclusions may also be found, and it will give the specimens a unique gold colour which is only found in Canadian Pinolite. Radiometric dating estimates that Canadian Pinolite formed 500-544 million years ago.

Exposure to water and other chemicals, such as cleaning products or aerosols, will damage it over time. If you polish the stone, use a dry cloth only, or an air duster that does not contain any disinfectant or other chemicals.
