A favorite material of ancient cultures, amethyst has endured the ages as one of man's most prized possessions. Amethyst ranges in color from a very light lavender to a deep violet shade of purple sometimes with slight hues of pink and red. Banded amethyst or cape amethyst may have lines of agate or chalcedony running through the amethyst. This may also be called chevron amethyst. Amethyst is found worldwide and has the distinction of being the birthstone for February and the official gemstone of the province of Ontario.

Druse is a term that refers to any rock formation where an irregular cavity allows well-formed tiny crystal structures such as quartz, feldspar or other mineral crystals to grow. These cavities give tiny crystals a place to form over millions of years. The end result is a triumph of Mother Nature called drusy or druzy. Druse or drusy (druzy) can be found world wide, but they are more commonly associated with agates and various types of quartzes.

Exposure to water and other chemicals, such as cleaning products or aerosols, will damage it over time. If you polish the stone, use a dry cloth only, or an air duster that does not contain any disinfectant or other chemicals.
