Dendritic opal: This unusual white stone often comes in clear or translucent pieces, other pieces are a more solid white. The truly distinctive characteristic of the dendritic opal are the small black lines or dendrites that mark the stone. The black lines within the rock are caused by the mineral manganese. These sometimes form unique patterns and scenes within the rock. Sometimes the dendritic opal is more opaque and looks less like an agate.
Dendritic opal is very unusual. It is prized by rock cutters as no two pieces look exactly alike.

Black onyx is a form of chalcedony, which is a variety of quartz. Black onyx or black agate is most commonly recognized as a solid black stone although it will often be mixed with white lines or banding running through it. This banding can create some unusual patterns within the stone. Whether solid black or striped, the stone is prized for its pure black sheen and high polish. The stone is most commonly used for jewellery.
Black onyx was used for jewellery by many ancient cultures. It has been found in tombs in ancient Egypt, and onyx is mentioned in the Bible.

Quartz: The quartz stone family is extremely large and varied. Some of the more famous members include amethyst (purple quartz), citrine(yellow quartz), smoky quartz (black), rutilated quartz (quartzes with other minerals growing inside them), as well as all the various agates and jaspers. Quartz may be found worldwide including many Canadian locations.

Clear or white Quartz is often found in crystal form and is the most often sought after for its healing or crystal properties.

Exposure to water and other chemicals, such as shampoos or perfumes, will damage it over time. If you polish the jewellery, avoid polishing the stone itself. A silver-cleaning dip should never be used with this piece.
