Trilobite Dalmanites

Trilobite Dalmanites

Like other trilobites, the creature is made up of three different parts: the cephalon (head), the thorax (body), and the pygidium (tail). The dalmanites are a trilobite found in a dark grey coloured rock. The dalmanites trilobite is a very interesting fossil for collectors. This trilobite has an unusual tail-like projection and also possesses a very unusual set of eyes. The creature was protected by a hard calcite shell and this is the fossil that remains to this day. The shell would not grow with the trilobite so the shell molted away several times during the creatures’ lifetime. Thus one trilobite may have left several fossils during its lifetime. The trilobite is the first creature known to have eyes. The age of the dalmanites trilobite fossil is between 395 million and 440 million years.
