These extinct mollusks swam the oceans alongside dinosaurs. The chambered ammonite is a rare variety where the inner spiral chambers have been naturally filled with minerals and painstakingly polished to reveal beautiful crystal formations. Approximate age: 135 million years.
Promicroceras Ammonite
This golden-toned ammonite comes from an ancient sea of the Early Jurassic. Its polished surface reveals a spiral of small chambers that the ammonite formed as it grew.
An ancestor of the modern squid, Orthoceras lived in ancient oceans over 345–395 million years ago. These fossils are often found in a striking black or brown marble-like matrix, sourced from Morocco.
The Phacops trilobite lived in the Devonian period, between 345 million and 435 million years ago. The trilobite is the first creature known to have eyes, some believe they had 360-degree vision.
Like other trilobites, the creature is made up of three different parts: the cephalon (head), the thorax (body), and the pygidium (tail). The creature was protected by a hard calcite shell and this is what remains fossilized to this day.
