Ocean Jasper

Ocean Jasper

Ocean Jasper, also known as Orbicular Jasper, finds its origins in Madagascar. Its name derives from the spectacular growth pattern it displays called spherulite: a spherical body, created by radial growth around a central point. It was found in different locations along the coast of Marovato and further inland in Kabamby. Unfortunately, every area ended depleted after a short amount of time. Each location had an influence on the colors and patterns of the gemstone. The different minerals composing Ocean Jasper are mostly chalcedony, banded agate and druses of clear quartz.

Ocean jasper is not surprisingly found underwater in the ocean. Formed millions of years ago, ocean jasper is very similar to its close relative the agate family. Ocean jasper is a relatively new find, but already much of the mine is depleted. The area was quite small where it was found, and much has been mined out, or is too difficult to get at due to it being mined on the ocean shoreline and sometimes underwater.

Some believe ocean jasper is good for a positive attitude and good health and healing oneself. Individual jaspers are often used to heal according to their individual colors, as ocean jaspers often are a combination of several colors, they are believed to be multipurpose in their healing and health properties. Ocean jasper is a powerful stone that lifts negativity, increases expression of love in words and actions, brings relaxation and cooperation to one's environment.
