Moldavite is a tektite; it is a rare olive green substance that is glass-like in appearance.  A tektite is formed when a meteorite hits the earth and large amounts of sand and debris are thrown high into orbit in the stratosphere. This material then re-enters the atmosphere and falls back to the earth. As it re-enters, it is subjected to high temperatures. A glasslike material is formed from the falling debris that is called a tektite. Moldavite is a form of tektite, it gets its name from the area in Moldavia where it is found. Scientists believe the moldavite was formed from a meteorite impact 14.8 million years ago. It was a very large meteorite as moldavite debris is spread out over hundreds of miles. Although the area to find moldavite is large, it is becoming more difficult to find every year. Due to this, the price of moldavite keeps going up as the stone gains popularity while simultaneously becoming scarce. Pieces are sought after by collectors and others drawn to the mysterious stone.

Originally found in the Moldau River in Czechoslovakia, most Moldavite is currently being mined in the Czech Republic. Moldavite may be found in surrounding areas as well, including Moldavia, Bohemia, Austria, and Germany.

Moldavite is said to be a stone of spiritual and personal positive transformation.

Shungite is a black stone that is usually shiny and intense in appearance. It has been around for approximately 2 billion years, but it wasn’t until the 1996 Nobel Prize-winning research that discovered antioxidant fullerenes within the stone that the world began to take notice of shungite. Springs that pass over shungite stones are typically turned into natural spas due to its cleansing properties – it is believed that shungite has purified water long before we began to use compressed charcoal or carbon blocks in water filters for the same purpose.

Spiritually, shungite is known as the ultimate cleanser.

Pearls are formed when a piece of sand or other irritant finds its way into an oyster. The oyster begins to secrete a smooth hard crystalline substance called nacre around the irritant to protect itself. As long as the irritant remains, the oyster will continue to produce this nacre, layer upon layer. It will take several years to produce a 3 to 4mm pearl. Freshwater pearls are grown in fresh water mollusks and they are more of a freeform shape than other pearls.

Ruby is a beautiful deep pink to red coloured stone. It is a form of the mineral corundum. A red corundum specimen is called a ruby; a blue corundum specimen is called a sapphire (although sapphires may also occur in pink, blue, green, violet, gray, yellow, plus other colours). Rubies are very hard; they are 9 hardness on the Moh’s scale. Only diamonds are harder.
