Copal or Copalite is the term given to organic resins that are not old enough to have fossilized and hardened sufficiently to become amber. This natural, distinctively clear Copal is from Columbia. There are often interesting inclusions such as spiders, moths, mosquitoes and other bugs. Colombian Copal can vary in age from a couple of thousand years to one million years old. It is great study material for budding paleontologists. Copal is a name given to tree resin that is particularly identified with the aromatic resins used by the cultures of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica as ceremonially burned incense and other purposes. The word copal is derived from the Nahuatl Language word copalli, meaning "incense".
