Fluorite is a soft gemstone. It comes in various colors including green, blue, yellow, white, and sometimes a raspberry color but it is best known as a purple gemstone. Sometimes the fluorite will be banded or have several colors combined together. Sometimes iron pyrite or fools gold will form inclusions within the fluorite. It will break along cleavage points into a perfect octahedron. Mineral crystals of fluorite are prized by mineral collectors, and the gemstone form is often cut from massive formations of fluorite.
Canadian sources of fluorite include Ontario but the stone is found worldwide. Industrial uses for fluorite include the stone being used in the smelting of steel but it is much nicer as a colorful gemstone. Fluorite is believed to be a powerful healer and it may also increase concentration. It is often used as a meditation stone.
The sphere represents completion, the realization of all possibilities. To carve a sphere one must cut away a mass of rock which can be as much as ten times the finished creation. Thus a sphere symbolizes all that we need to release in order to reach our goals and attain perfection.
Many use a sphere while meditating as they believe it helps to release worry and may help to take them to a deeper state. A sphere is also the perfect centerpiece for a crystal arrangement or rock altar. In feng shui, the ancient art of creating optimal energy flow in an environment, a sphere is ideal to place in the center of a room for its balancing abilities.
