This unusual piece is a true collector’s find. Created by Millennium Designs in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, this authentic fossilized mammoth tusk has been inlaid with genuine gemstones and 18 karat gold to create a truly unique artist offering.
The fossil woolly mammoth tusk is approximately 20,000 to 150,000 years old and was found in Siberia, Russia. It was an ancient elephant-like creature that became extinct about 10,000 years ago. Most often, the tusks are found as partial bits. Only on rare occasions are complete tusks such as this one found. This specimen exhibits incredible preservation and amazing detail.
In the 1990’s, Millennium Designs started experimenting with making mammoth ivory jewellery. These pieces were made by combining fossil mammoth ivory with other gemstones, and using an epoxy glue that was mixed with 18 karat gold dust to serve as a very unique “grout” to hold the art pieces together. The same process was used on a much larger scale to create this mammoth tusk. This piece uses real mammoth ivory and features several genuine lapis lazuli and black onyx gemstones. It gives the tusk an added personality and a touch of color.
Rare, unique, and no longer made, this is a true collector’s piece.
