This unusual specimen is an example of petrified fir wood from the petrified wood belt in the United States of America, which stretches across Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Arizona. This specimen is from Evans Creek, Oregon, from the Miocene period. It is approximately 30 million years old. This is a rare and unique find, due mainly to the amazing preservation of the wood grain, which does not commonly survive the petrifaction process.
