Moldavite is a tektite; it is a rare olive green substance that is glass-like in appearance.  A tektite is formed when a meteorite hits the earth and large amounts of sand and debris are thrown high into orbit in the stratosphere. This material then re-enters the atmosphere and falls back to the earth. As it re-enters, it is subjected to high temperatures. A glasslike material is formed from the falling debris that is called a tektite. Moldavite is a form of tektite, it gets its name from the area in Moldavia where it is found. Scientists believe the moldavite was formed from a meteorite impact 14.8 million years ago. It was a very large meteorite as moldavite debris is spread out over hundreds of miles. Although the area to find moldavite is large, it is becoming more difficult to find every year. Due to this, the price of moldavite keeps going up as the stone gains popularity while simultaneously becoming scarce. Pieces are sought after by collectors and others drawn to the mysterious stone.

Originally found in the Moldau River in Czechoslovakia, most Moldavite is currently being mined in the Czech Republic. Moldavite may be found in surrounding areas as well, including Moldavia, Bohemia, Austria, and Germany.

Moldavite is said to be a stone of spiritual and personal positive transformation.  Moldavite’s energy is said to activate all the Chakras; it can help one with meditation, and help one with vices. This rare stone of connectivity contains an intense frequency from the fusion of earthly and extraterrestrial energies. It accelerates one's personal and spiritual evolution, and is highly sought after for its life-altering capabilities. This piece is perfect for the dreamers and those wanting to connect with the universe.

Green amethyst is amethyst where the amethyst mineral has a higher than normal iron content within the stone. This iron content causes some of the stones to be green when found, although this is rare. More often, the natural amethyst is heat treated to produce the green color. Only certain amethyst stones from mines with a higher iron mineral content in the amethyst will produce the green color change.

A favorite material of ancient cultures, amethyst has endured the ages as one of man's most prized possessions. Amethyst is found worldwide and has the distinction of being the birthstone for February and the official gemstone of the province of Ontario. Most green amethyst comes from Brazil.

In the Middle Ages it was believed that amethyst would protect one from drunkenness and protect crops from evil spirits, blight and locusts. Some believe that amethyst has calming and protective qualities and that wearing amethyst will increase inspiration and intuition.  It is a good stone for meditation.

Campo del cielo was a very large meteorite fall, it is theorized to be a large piece that broke up when entering the atmosphere, some 4000 to 6000 years ago. Campo del cielo means field of the sky or heaven, which is a very appropriate name. This meteorite was first discovered in 1576, the meteorite fragments have been found over a large area, both inside and outside of craters.  Most Campo pieces come from Argentina, although some very recent finds suggest fragments may be found as far away as Peru. This is one of the few iron meteorites.  It has been studied extensively by many Universities and may also be found in several museum collections.

This meteorite has a unique crystallization known as the Widmanstatten crystal structure.  These lines are shown as a unique etched pattern on the meteorite.  This pattern is the result of the meteorite cooling in outer space over billions of years. Although not as finely detailed as other meteorites, these pieces still display this pattern when cut and etched with acid.

As this meteorite is composed mostly of iron, care must be taken to prevent the piece from rusting.  Direct exposure to water is not recommended.  Oil the piece regularly with mineral oil or olive oil.  Do not leave the piece laying around on wet surfaces.
