Topaz stones are almost always faceted. This is done to show off the intense colors. A nice topaz stone will really sparkle.
The ancient Greeks believed that topaz could increase the strength of the wearer and even provide invisibility in desperate times. In traditional Indian belief systems, topaz is said to unlock the throat chakra, which facilitates communication and self-expression. Therefore, topaz is thought to be beneficial to artists, writers, public speakers and others who are concerned with self-expression.
Blue topaz may be found along the western coast of North America but the primary source remains South America and Russia.
