Pyrite suns are found in a coal mine at the 300-foot level in a narrow seam that lies on top of the coal. Miners often bring them up in their lunch boxes; otherwise these pieces would be destroyed during the mining process. Pyrite suns are found surrounded by a black slate and must undergo a difficult cleaning process to reveal their natural hidden beauty. The pyrite sun dates back 350 million years. There is still much debate whether these are the fossilized remains of some ancient sea creature that has been replaced by pyrite or whether these discs are just an unusual formation of the mineral pyrite (fool’s gold). Pyrite suns make attractive home decorator pieces. Although round is the most common shape, many unusual shapes are found every year.
Iron Pyrite promotes positive thinking, enhances confidence and assertiveness.
