Dioptase is a hydrous copper silicate based mineral, which distinguishes itself with its rich opaque to translucid emerald green to blueish green colours. Its name comes from the Greek words Dia, which means "through" and Optasia, which means "to see", the reason being that the translucent crystal allows to see through it. Dioptase has also been called "emerald copper" due to its colour.

This mineral can be found with other copper bearing minerals like Chrysocolla, Malachite and Shattuckite. It can be found in various parts of the world, however each of our specimens are from Arizona, USA. Each locality produces different qualities and formations of crystals depending on the geological formation they came from.
