This geode formed million of years ago during volcanic eruptions. Volcanic geodes were formed when the volcanic lava flows left cavities filled with gas. As the flows cooled, these cavities allowed for mineral bearing solutions to enter and the combinations of these solutions along with heat, pressure and million of years allowed the geode to form. Whatever minerals were present in the solutions determined what type of minerals and colors would form on the inside. Geodes will resemble a potato on the outside, the stone must then be cut to see the beautiful crystals and colors inside.
Legends ascribe various potent powers to the geode. It was believed that the geode may increase physical strength and shield one against evil visions. It was also believed that the geode was a good luck charm and a mystical aphrodisiac.
The orthoceras is a fossil that is often found in a black or brown marble-like material. This stone fossil material can be polished to a beautiful finish. The orthoceras creature is an ancestor to the modern day squid. Scientists believe that, like the modern squid, the orthoceras would shoot ink out to scare off predators. To move it would suck water in one end and shoot it out the other, the action being similar to that of a jet engine. The orthoceras lived from 345 million to 395 million years ago.
The trilobite is one of the best known and recognized fossils. The creature was protected by a hard calcite shell and this is what remains fossilized to this day. This shell would not grow with the creature so the shell was molted away several times. Thus one trilobite may have left several fossils during its lifetime.
The trilobite is the first creature known to have eyes, and some believe that the trilobite had 360-degree vision. As trilobites were believed to be water scavengers, living off the ocean bottom, this 360-degree vision came in handy. This elrathia kingi trilobite is approximately 550 million years old.
Trilobites are said to help with leadership and management skills, as well as develop patience, strength and perseverance. This fossil will allow you to recognize the path required to reach your goals, and give you the perseverance required to follow through.
