This is dinosaur coprolite, also known as fossilized dung. It is 65 to 125 million years old, found in Utah. . The dung has many sources, including ancient turtles and mammals of various types, however it is small dinosaurs of many types that have provided much of the coprolite that is found today. This dinosaur coprolite fossilized an uncommon fossilization process known as agatization, which occurs when chalcedony or cryptocrystalline quartz replace the remains of what the dinosaur consumed, and transforms them in a colorful way. These specimens have been very useful to scientists researching the lifestyle of these intriguing creatures.
Scientists test the coprolite to see whether the creature was a plant or meat eater by looking for minerals that exist in certain species of plants today. They then examine the coprolite to look for these same minerals. Examining coprolites helps to provide insight into the types of plants that existed at that time, and it gives scientists a bigger view of the daily life of the creature it came from.
Coprolite has healing properties. It is believed to enhance memory, facilitates past life regression and helps you find the courage during the difficult journey through life. It is also a good aid for the skeletal and digestive system, stimulating the assimilation of nutrients and elimination of toxins.
This piece of agatized coprolite features a cut base so that it can be displayed standing up. You can view the cut base in the fifth product image.
