Mystic Topaz is an enhanced clear topaz. In order to create it, clear topaz is first cut then treated in the USA on the back of the stone with a permanent bond to give it unique kaleidoscopic colours, prominently greens, blues and purples. Since this process only affects the surface of the stone, special care should be taken of your piece.
The ancient Greeks believed that topaz could increase the strength of the wearer and even provide invisibility in desperate times. In traditional Indian belief systems, topaz is said to unlock the throat chakra, which facilitates communication and self-expression. Therefore, topaz is thought to be beneficial to artists, writers, public speakers and others who are concerned with self-expression. Druzy is one of the most unusual and rare mineral specimens as it is created with the help of various minerals and dyes to create an unique array of colours and patterns.
To start, the highest grade quartz geodes are selected. The top of each is carefully polished away until the crystals inside are exposed. The piece is then treated with a dye and/or mineral to achieve the unique colours. In this particular case, the stone was plated with titanium to give it a rainbow shine. This plating treatment is done via an electrostatic process whereby the geodes are put into a vacuum and charged opposite the titanium. Heat is applied. The titanium is then put into the vacuum and it "clings" to the geode. The piece is then turned over and the process is repeated, so that all areas are covered. The titanium, when charged and treated in a vacuum environment, will combine with the geode and changes the colour to a magnificent rainbow shine.
