Pink jade is a member of the jade family of stones, and ranges in colour from white with pink swirls and inclusions, to pale pink, to a very bright magenta pink. While very similar in appearance to pink tourmaline, these stones are often more opaque, while tourmaline will be more clear. The most prized pink jades have a consistent bright colour and a nice polish.
Jade is a stone with a long history. Man has used jade for thousands of years through various cultures around the world, Ancient Chinese cultures associated jade with wisdom, it was also believed to assure a person a long life and peaceful death. Many tombs of ancient Egypt contain jade amulets. It is said that ancient Mezoamericans, such as the Aztecs, Mayans, and Olmecs, cherished jade more than gold. Some believe that jade may strengthen the heart and immune system and that it may also cleanse the blood, increase longevity and fertility. It has been said that the entrance to heaven is blocked by a huge jade boulder. Only people that cherished jade during their lifetime can move the boulder and enter heaven. This stone requires special care - exposure to water and other chemicals, such as lotions or perfumes, will damage it over time. If you polish the jewellery, avoid polishing the stone itself. A silver-cleaning dip should never be used with this piece.
