Brand New in Stores!!!

DragonEgg RocksandGemsCanada

We welcome new into our store, the Septarian Dragon Egg.

Just like our Septarian Nodules, they are a mud concretion as a result of volcanic eruptions. They formed on ancient sea beds 50-70 million years ago in Madagascar and fossilize with different minerals such as calcite and aragonite to create the intriguing texture of the geode. A lot of work goes into digging the septarians, cutting, polishing and preparing the perfect pieces to display.

Come visit our stores and take a look at our beautiful collection! Keep an eye on our website, we will make them available in the next weeks. We do shipping all over the world, if you have any inquiries, don't hesitate and contact us by email: sales@rocksandgemscanada.com

Under The Sea

Under The Sea

It's Fossil Friday!

Did you know that the sea urchin and the sand dollar belong to the same family? Echinoderms also include sea stars and sea cucumbers. They are marine invertebrates with a water-vascular system. They have been living in the seas for about 450 million years. The flower on the surface of the fossil is the outline of the creature's pores and the center of it is where its mouth was. Some of them lived buried deep in muddy sediment, where they fed on microscopic organisms to survive, while others adapted their diet to their environment.

Come visit our stores and take a look at our mesmerizing collection! We do shipping all over the world, if you have any inquiries, don't hesitate and contact us by email: rps@rocksandgemscanada.com

Fossilized swamp?!?!

Fossilized swamp?!?!

Did you know there is over 2000 different types of Jasper?! Gary Jasper (AKA Garry Green Jasper, Swamp Bog Jasper, Larsonite, etc.) is one of our favorite types of jasper! It is a sedimentary rock that some believe contains fossilized swamp, wood, and algae. These were then covered by volcanic ash, and fossilized over time into these amazing colors! This process ages the stone to be around 11-14 million years old! Gary Jasper is said to bring joy into ones life and is a helpful stone for spreading joy to others as well. P.S we also have Gary Jasper jewelry!

The ancient trilobites

The ancient trilobites

Trilobites are considered the greatest survivors in Earth's history as they have witnessed so much more of our distant past than any other organism or animal. They were very adaptable creatures & made it through 300 million years of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions & ice ages. Although there were roughly 17,000 different known species of trilobites, their best known descendant today is the horseshoe crab. It is believed they went extinct about 250 million years ago. This piece is amazing having captured at least 4 quite large ones all together. We have quite a few different species & sizes to choose from. Check out our stores & website for more!
